Whit Fraser

Whit Fraser C.C. is a journalist, author and storyteller, and vice-regal consort of Canadian Governor General Mary Simon. His first book, a memoir of his life and work in Arctic communities titled True North Rising, won the 2019 NorthWords Book Prize. Fraser also served as founding chair of the Canadian Polar Commission, and as executive director of Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami, Canada’s national Inuit organization.

Fraser was inspired to write his second book, a novel titled Cold Edge of Heaven, after visiting an abandoned Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment at Dundas Harbour on Devon Island, NT. Near the outpost are three hilltop graves surrounded by a white picket fence that captured his imagination. Cold Edge of Heaven was published by Boulder Books.

True North Rising was republished by Penguin Random House Canada in February 2023, debuting as a national bestseller.
